Evaluation of a simulation program for management of cardiovascular emergencies in pregnant women

1.1. Introduction: Medical education worldwide is undergoing a pedagogical renovation movement; medical simulation is one of the revolutionary educational tools whose aim is to improve the medical knowledge, technical and non-technical skills of health professionals, while ensuring patient safety. Many studies have dealt with the contribution of simulation in cardiology, however no studies have been done on the management of cardiovascular emergencies in pregnant women by simulation.

Cardiac Myxoma: A Rare Case Series of 4 Patients and a Literature Review

Cardiac myxomas are the most common primary cardiac tumor. Clinical findings are numerous and range from general manifesta tions to symptoms related to intra-cardiac obstruction or systemic embolization. Echocardiography is the key exam for the diagnosis and surgery allows tumor resection and the prevention of compli cations.

The role of cellular immunity in the protective efficacy of the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine

Several severe acute respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS CoV-2) vaccines have been approved for clinical use. However, most studies use the SARS-CoV-2-neutralizing antibody titers in duced after immunization as an evaluation indicator, and the role of cellular immune responses in the protective efficacy of vaccines is rarely mentioned. The synergistic effect of virus-specific humor al immunity and the cellular immune response helps the host fight against viral infection. A follow-up analysis of SARS-CoV-2-in fected individuals indicated that the early appearance of specific T cell responses is strongly correlated with mild symptoms and that individuals with pre-existing SARS-CoV-2 nonstructural pro tein-specific T cells are more likely to be immune to infection. These findings suggest the important role of cellular immunity in the fight against SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Congenital panfollicular nevus

A 1-month-old girl presented to our dermatology clinic with a few irregular asymptomatic nodules on her scalp which were present at birth and had recently increased in size. An incisional biopsy was taken, and the results were compatible with a newly proposed entity called congenital panfollicular nevus.

Metastatic Adrenocortical Carcinoma presenting as intracavitary mass in right atrium: a case report

1.1. Background: Adrenocortical carcinomas grow rapidly and tend to metastasize to liver and lungs and invade kidney, renal vein and Inferior vena cava (IVC). Cardiac metastases of the tumor is rare, less than 20 cases have been described and most of them oc curred via direct extension through inferior vena cava into right atrium [1]. Endocardial Metastases from adrenocortical carcinoma presenting as an intracavitary growth in right atrium of heart with out associated IVC involvement is very rare

Giant Cell Tumor of the Middle Phalanx of Ring Finger Treated with Wide Excision and Reconstruction using Non-vascularized Fibular Graft: A Rare Case Report and Review of Literature

Giant cell tumor (GCT) involving the hand, specifically the pha langeal bones, is very rare, accounting for only 2% of cases of the bone. This type of GCT is associated with more aggressive behaviour and higher recurrence and metastasis rate. We present a rare case of large GCT of the middle phalanx of ring finger in a 33 year old female. The patient was treated with wide excision and reconstruction using non-vascularized fibular graft. At her most recent follow-up time, 1 year post-surgery, the patient showed no symptoms with neither complication nor recurrence reported.

COVID-19 Associated Loss of Smell and Taste Treated with Gabapentin

Throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic, the symptoms of loss of smell and taste have been commonly encountered by healthcare professionals, and in fact, have become an important screening tool. By some estimates, 96% of COVID-19 patients experience these symptoms to various degrees [1]. While the exact mecha nism of cellular events that lead to loss of smell and taste is large ly unknown, research is underway to better understand the pro cess. The senses are usually regained with time but often can take months, and in some instances, be permanent [2]. Nearly one out of ten patients have not fully recovered by two months and treat ment options so far are limited [3]. The use of a low dose of Gab apentin could be a possible treatment for anosmia and ageusia in COVID-19 patients.

COVID-19 pneumonia in a congenital adrenal hyperplasia; a case report

Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) is managed with long term corticosteroid and is suggested to higher dose, based on the general sick day principles. I presented a 5-year-old CAH case by pneumonia managed in our pediatrics department. Consider ing stress doses of cortisone in management of CAH patients with COVID19 should be considered.

INTRA-ABDOMINAL LYMPHANGIOMA

Lymphangiomas are rare slowly growing benign tumors derived from lymphatic vessels. They occur in various anatomical loca tions of body like head, neck and abdomen. Abdominal cystic Lymphangiomas are rare intra-abdominal masses affecting the in fants and young children, these may be detected incidentally on radiological investigations or present with abdominal distension, vague abdominal pain and life threatening emergencies like bowel obstruction and torsion of cystic masses.
