1.1. Aim: The primary objective of this study was to comapare laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery vs open colorectal surgery on postoperative morbidity and mortality.
Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS), a rodent-borne disease caused by hantaviruses, is clinically characterized by fe ver, circulatory collapse with hypotension, hemorrhage, and acute kidney injury. China has the largest number of HFRS cases world wide, with outbreaks occurring in both eastern coastal cities and inland cities, occasionally resulting in death, it is necessary to find loopholes in prevention and control measures to reduce the occur rence of such infectious diseases.
The objective of this case report was to present an abnormal so cio-nutri-psychological behavior or tail-biting/chewing in weaned Holstein heifers. Dairy heifers raised under commercial systems are separated from their dams and moved to individual or group housing systems which are different from their natural environ ment. Cross-suckling and non-nutritive behaviors are common in heifers reared artificially under intensive systems, especially those with restricted milk feeding programs.
We report a case of skipped multisegmental spinal tuberculosis with tuberculous pleurisy treated with non-surgical management. We discuss the literature, trying to shine a light on the non-surgical treatment.
The search for effective COVID-19 management strategies con tinues to evolve. Severity of COVID-19 has been reported to be positively correlated with a concomitant rise in inflammatory cytokine levels (1, 2). Statins (3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl co enzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitors) are widely used for dyslipidemia for primary and secondary prevention of cardiac and cerebrovascular events. Statins also have anti-inflammatory ef fects, including reducing C-reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interferon gamma (IFNγ) which has been hypothesized in reducing the severity of COVID-19. In this study, we aimed to assess the effects of statin on the length of hospital stay and clinical outcome in patients with COVID-19.
The use of the muscle flaps for the management of complex groin wound with exposed vessels provide effective and safe coverage. The choice of flap is important depending on the size of the wound which gives adequate healthy tissue coverage delivering oxygen and antibiotic to the infected wound bed, which can prevent cata strophic events like vessel blow out. We report here usage of retro flexed gracilis muscle flap for successful covering of the exposed femoral vessels post angiography procedure.
Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is an autosomal-dominant dis order characterized by hamartomas in multiple organ systems. Variants in the TSC1 and TSC2 gene lead to the dysfunction of the hamartin or tuberin proteins, respectively, which causes tuberous sclerosis complex.
Pregnancy luteoma is a non-neoplastic lesion of the ovary relat ed to hormonal effects of pregnancy that is usually discovered incidentally at the time of a caesarean section or during postpar tum tubal ligation. We herein report a case of a 33year-old full term pregnant female who presented with abdominal pain and a right-sided ovarian mass.
Intraductal papillary neoplasm of the bile duct (IPNB) is a rare biliary tumor characterized by papillary growth in the bile duct, a high risk of malignant transformation, and an unknown prognosis. IPNB diagnosis has always been challenging, especially when the tumor is difficult to detect by imaging. Smaller IPNB tumors are difficult to diagnose preoperatively using only noninvasive imag ing examination, and bile duct stones can impact the successful diagnosis of IPNB.
Burkitt’s lymphoma (BL) is a highly infiltrative malignant lymphoma caused by germinal B-cell differentiation. There are several oral symptoms of BL, including tooth mobility, pain, gingival swelling, maxillofacial swelling and pain, and facial sensory disturbances.
