A Rare Case of Successful Multiple Prolonged Runs of Extracorporeal Life Support for Severe Covid-19-Related Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Editorial Extracorporeal life support (ECLS) is used worldwide as rescue therapy to manage severe COVID-19-related acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). In patients supported with venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV ECMO) for COVID- 19-related ARDS, the overall mortality rate is approximately 39%, and the mean ECMO duration (approximately 15 days) seems to be longer than that of other etiologies [1]. Only a few cases of successful native lung recovery have been reported after prolonged VV ECMO (>28 days) [2,3].
